About Top Gun's Breeding Program
Who we are and what we do
At Top Gun Golden Retrievers, our program is truly one-of-a-kind. What sets us apart is our commitment to both training and over-socializing our puppies. A properly trained and socialized pup isn’t just easier to live with—they become a peaceful, joyful, and loving part of your family. That’s our goal: to provide you with a kind, calm, gentle, and intelligent Golden Retriever who will bring happiness to your life for 10+ healthy years.
We begin working with our puppies at just 3 days old, using Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI). This helps them become confident with human handling—from their ears and paws to their bellies and tails—and exposes them to temperature changes, like cool packs, to build tolerance. ESI also helps us assess which puppies show early promise for service work, and we use that data to match each puppy with the best-fit family based on their natural temperament and abilities.
From there, we begin a 14-week journey of structured training, socialization, desensitization, and confidence-building. At 6 weeks, after their first round of vaccines and a few days of monitoring, we begin teaching them to use the dog door, doggy doorbell, and start potty training. We also begin crate training, helping them see the crate as a safe and cozy space—not a punishment. This supports a smooth transition into your home and helps prevent separation anxiety, destructive behaviors, and fearfulness.
At the same time, we begin public outings in a wagon—so they can experience the world without the health risks of paws and noses on the ground. These outings allow safe interactions with people, where they are gently introduced to new sights, sounds, smells, and even obedience requests in a controlled setting.
By 8 weeks, our puppies begin therapy work at a local facility—a milestone no other program in the U.S. currently offers this early. From 8 to 14 weeks, we continue building on their training, with a focus on obedience, social confidence, desensitization, and therapy development.
By the time our puppies go home, they are fully crate and potty trained, and are often settled into their new homes within 72 hours—a drastic difference compared to the 3 weeks (or more) it can take for traditionally raised puppies to adjust. This is because our puppies are incredibly confident, well-socialized, and emotionally prepared.
We proudly offer home visits so you can meet our parent dogs, interact with the puppies, tour our enrichment center, and truly see what makes our program special. We also offer nationwide hand-delivery, lifetime access to our YouTube training series, and discounted group puppy classes for continued support.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our program. We are passionate about what we do, and we’re honored to help you find your perfect match.
Stay Golden,
Samantha
