Puppy Training Program
Good habits begin before your puppy comes home.
At Top Gun, training is woven into the way we raise our puppies. As a certified obedience and service dog trainer, I work with them through everyday routines, individual training sessions, and carefully planned outings. They practice listening, settling, handling distractions, and connecting with people.
Our program includes obedience, desensitization, therapy foundations, and public access training. Each puppy’s temperament and progress guide our approach, with skills developing throughout their stay. Whether you’re looking for a family companion or a prospect for future therapy or service work, we help lay the groundwork and support you as you continue their training at home.
What do we teach our puppies?
Obedience Training
We teach skills families can use every day, including basic cues, recall, leash manners, and impulse control. Clear communication and consistent practice help puppies understand what we are asking. We build these skills into everyday routines, with an emphasis on engagement, patience, and a strong working relationship with people.
Public Access Exposure Training
Our puppies experience the world beyond our home through structured outings to pet-friendly locations. We work on handler focus, calm observation, and appropriate behavior around people and everyday distractions. As their skills develop, we practice leash manners and settling in new places, building a foundation for comfortable outings with their families.
Therapy Exposure Training
Gentle interactions are at the heart of our therapy foundations. Through supervised visits to senior living and memory care communities, puppies practice polite greetings, settling beside people, and becoming comfortable with different voices, movements, and ways of interacting. We nurture the calm companionship that can support future therapy work.
Desensitization Training
Vacuums, grooming tools, unfamiliar surfaces, and unexpected sounds are all part of everyday life. We introduce these experiences gradually, pairing them with positive experiences and allowing each puppy time to adjust. Our goal is to help puppies feel comfortable with their surroundings and build confidence when something new comes along.
Real World Training
We believe puppies are set up for success when they experience real life from the very beginning.
That is why our puppies live with us in our home. It is why we teach them to feel safe and comfortable in their crates, take them into public, introduce them to new environments, and have them professionally groomed.
We are not trying to predict how our puppies might respond to the world someday. We give them opportunities to experience it now. We watch how they handle unfamiliar situations, how quickly they recover, what support they need, and how they grow with repeated practice.
Our puppies are not raised separately from everyday life. They are raised right in the middle of it, because the best way to prepare a puppy for the real world is to let them learn how to live in it.
