Welcome to Our Policy Page

Our Policies

Bringing home a puppy is a big commitment, and we want our families to understand what to expect before making that decision. These policies explain our approach to reservations, veterinary care, training, health coverage, and ongoing support.

Please review this page and your written puppy purchase agreement before reserving your puppy. We welcome questions and want you to feel comfortable with the process.

2.5-Year Limited Health Guarantee

Every Top Gun puppy comes with a 2.5-year limited health guarantee covering genetic hip and elbow dysplasia.

Your coverage begins on the day you pick up your puppy and continues for 30 months from that date. It does not begin at birth or end when your dog turns 2½ years old. A puppy who stays with us for additional training receives the same 30-month coverage period beginning at pickup.

Qualifying claims require the documentation and OFA confirmation described in our written health guarantee. Please contact us when a concern arises so we can review the relevant records with you.

For an approved claim, our limited guarantee provides one replacement puppy, subject to availability and the terms of your agreement. It does not provide a cash refund or include an extended training program for the replacement puppy. Under the replacement terms in our agreement, the original dog must be returned to Top Gun unless we agree otherwise in writing.

Please review the complete written guarantee for its eligibility requirements, exclusions, and replacement terms before reserving your puppy.

Reservations and Deposits

A reservation deposit is required to reserve a puppy. Your deposit amount and total purchase price will be confirmed in writing before payment.

For puppies picked up in person, the reservation deposit is fully refundable before pickup. Once the puppy is picked up, the deposit becomes nonrefundable. The return policy below explains what happens to the remaining payment if the placement is not the right fit.

Please contact us before sending a deposit so we can discuss availability, your family’s needs, and the puppy or training option you are considering.

Our 72-Hour Return Policy for Pickup Placements

We want our puppies and families to be a good match.

Families who pick up their puppy have 72 hours from the time of pickup to return the puppy if they determine the placement is not right for them. When the puppy is returned within that window, payments are refunded less the reservation deposit.

A change-of-mind return after 72 hours does not include a purchase-price refund. Our lifetime return commitment still applies, and qualifying health concerns are handled separately under the applicable written health terms.

Please contact us promptly if you are considering a return. Delivery arrangements and their applicable return timeline must be confirmed in writing before transport.

Go-Home Ages and Scheduling

Our youngest puppies now go home at 9 weeks rather than 8 weeks. Puppies enrolled in additional training remain with us according to their selected program.

During that extra week, we continue practicing potty-training habits using the dog door, walking forward on a leash, and gradually building comfortable crate time. The additional week for our youngest puppies is included without a price increase.

Your puppy’s go-home date will be arranged with you in advance. Please discuss scheduling needs before reserving so we can plan their care and training accordingly.

Veterinary Care and Vaccinations

While puppies are in our care, all vaccinations are administered at Queen Creek Vet. Our puppies now begin their vaccination schedule at 7 weeks.

Families receive their puppy’s available veterinary and vaccination records at go-home. After pickup, please continue veterinary care and follow your veterinarian’s recommendations for the remaining vaccinations, parasite prevention, and routine wellness care.

Our purchase agreement requires a veterinary examination within 72 hours of pickup. Please arrange this appointment ahead of time and share any concerns or findings with us.

If your puppy needs urgent medical attention, contact a veterinarian immediately rather than waiting for a response from Top Gun.

Parasite Testing and Support

We provide parasite-related support through our separate written Giardia and Intestinal Parasite Policy.

If a puppy tests positive for an intestinal parasite while still in our care, Top Gun covers the reasonable veterinary testing and treatment expenses associated with that parasite while the puppy remains with us.

For eligible claims after go-home, we reimburse documented veterinary testing and treatment expenses up to $250 total when one parasite is identified, or up to $500 total when more than one parasite is identified. These are reimbursement limits, not automatic payments. Families must provide the veterinary or laboratory results and itemized invoices.

Please contact us with the results and follow your veterinarian’s treatment and follow-up instructions. This support is separate from our limited genetic hip and elbow guarantee.

Training Expectations

The training your puppy receives depends on their age, selected program, and individual progress.

We work on practical skills such as crate routines, potty-training habits, basic obedience, leash foundations, handling, settling, and appropriate behavior around everyday distractions. Additional time with us provides more opportunities for practice, observation, and individual guidance.

No puppy leaves Top Gun completely finished. Families should expect to continue training as their puppy adjusts to a new home and matures. Our program is designed to give you a stronger starting point, not a puppy who will never need further guidance. (Top Gun Golden Retri)

At-Home Guidance and Ongoing Support

Each family receives a customized five-week at-home training program to help continue the work started at Top Gun. We also provide lifetime breeder support for the puppies we produce.

Please review the training-support benefits included with your selected program. Any additional training sessions, boarding, or other services should be discussed and agreed upon separately.

We encourage families to reach out with questions rather than feeling they have to figure everything out alone.

Puppy Matching and Working-Dog Prospects

We consider each puppy’s temperament, energy level, confidence, sociability, learning style, and suitability for your household when making recommendations. Our goal is to help you understand the individual puppy you are considering. (Top Gun Golden Retri)

Some puppies may show potential for future therapy or service work. A recommendation as a prospect is not a promise that a puppy is already a finished working dog or will successfully complete a particular program. Further training and evaluation are required. (Top Gun Golden Retri)

Please tell us about your goals before reserving so we can discuss whether a particular puppy is an appropriate prospect.

Visits and Puppy Handling

Visits are by appointment so we can give families our attention while maintaining the puppies’ daily care and training routines.

Visitors must follow our puppy-handling and sanitation procedures, including wearing the provided shoe covers and sanitizing their hands before interacting with the puppies.

Thank you for helping us protect the dogs and puppies in our care.

Registration and Breeding Rights

Puppies placed under our pet, therapy, and service puppy agreement are sold with AKC Limited Registration. Breeding rights are not included.

Families are responsible for preventing intentional or accidental breeding and following the spay or neuter requirements in their written agreement. Please review those requirements before reserving a puppy.

Microchip Information

Your puppy’s microchip information must remain accurate throughout their life. Please update the registration whenever your phone number, address, or other contact information changes.

The microchip must not be removed or altered. Top Gun may be listed as a secondary contact as described in your agreement.

Lifetime Return Commitment

If you become unable to keep your Top Gun dog, contact us.

Under our purchase agreement, our dogs must be returned to Top Gun rather than sold, transferred, privately rehomed, or surrendered to a shelter. This commitment remains in place for the dog’s lifetime.

Our lifetime return commitment is separate from our refund policy. Returning a dog later in life does not automatically create eligibility for a refund.

Please Review Your Written Agreement

This page summarizes our policies. Your written puppy purchase agreement and any applicable policy documents provide the complete terms for your puppy’s placement.

Please review them before making a reservation and ask about anything that is unclear. Nothing on this page is intended to limit rights provided by applicable law.
