A Brief Description of Top Gun Goldens

The Story Behind Top Gun Golden Retrievers

My name is Samantha Thompson-Duman, and if there's one thing I hope you take away from this website, it's that Top Gun Golden Retrievers was never built to be "just another breeding program."

It was built from a lifetime of learning, a lifetime of loss, and a lifetime of loving animals.

I grew up on a working ranch in Montana where animals weren't simply pets. They were partners, coworkers, and family.

I learned to train my first pony when I was two years old and my first ranch-bred puppy when I was four.

Was I actually any good at two and four years old?

According to my Grandma Joyce, I was a natural.

She might have been a little biased.

But she was also the person who shaped the way I look at animals, people, and life itself.

The Greatest Lesson I Ever Learned

As I got older, I continued learning how to breed, raise, train, and develop animals.

Looking back, though, the most valuable lessons weren't about dogs.

They were about patience.

Respect.

Communication.

My grandma always told me that when you're training an animal, you have to respect them enough to meet them where they are.

If one approach isn't working, don't get frustrated.

Try another one.

Every animal learns differently.

That lesson has stayed with me for my entire life.

Today it's one of the biggest reasons I believe there isn't just one way to train a dog.

Every puppy is different.

Every family is different.

My job isn't to force every puppy into the same mold.

My job is to figure out how each puppy learns best and help them succeed.

The Day Everything Changed

In 2009, my grandma was killed during a barrel race.

She had purchased a horse from someone who wasn't honest about the horse's health, training, and abilities.

One dishonest decision changed our family's life forever.

She wasn't just my grandma.

She was my best friend.

We spent almost every day together.

Losing her left a permanent mark on my heart.

It also shaped the kind of business I wanted to build.

That experience taught me something I'll never forget.

People place an incredible amount of trust in breeders.

They're trusting us with their hearts, their homes, and often one of the biggest emotional investments they'll make for the next ten to fifteen years.

I refuse to take that responsibility lightly.

Honesty isn't just part of my business.

It's the foundation of it.

When I Look at My Puppies...

When I look at my puppies, I don't just see puppies.

I see futures.

I see a little boy reading his first book with a Golden Retriever asleep beside him.

I see a therapy dog comforting someone on the hardest day of their life.

I see a service dog giving someone independence they never thought they'd have.

I see a hunting partner.

An adventure buddy.

A couch companion.

A best friend.

I see a dog growing old beside the family who loved them from the very beginning.

That's why I care so much about these first few months.

The experiences they have today will shape the dog they become tomorrow.

Why I Became Both a Breeder and a Trainer

For a long time, I thought my job ended when families picked up their puppy.

Then I became a certified dog trainer.

Working with hundreds of dogs completely changed the way I looked at breeding.

I realized many of the struggles families experienced could have been made easier if the puppies had a stronger foundation before they ever went home.

So I changed my program.

Instead of asking, "How quickly can this puppy go home?"

I started asking,

"How much can I teach this puppy before they go home?"

That question changed everything.

Today every decision we make revolves around giving puppies the strongest possible start in life.

More Than a Breeder

When you bring home a Top Gun puppy, you're not just getting a puppy.

You're getting years of experience.

A certified dog trainer.

Lifetime support.

Customized training plans.

Someone you can text when potty training isn't going the way you hoped.

Someone you can call when adolescence suddenly makes your perfect puppy forget everything they knew.

Someone who's genuinely invested in helping your family succeed.

Because that's exactly what I'd want if I were bringing home a puppy.

My Promise

I can't promise every puppy will be perfect.

No breeder can.

Dogs are living, thinking, feeling individuals.

What I can promise is this:

I'll always be honest with you.

I'll continue learning and improving.

I'll keep investing in my breeding program.

I'll raise every puppy with intention.

And I'll be here long after your puppy comes home.

Because choosing a breeder isn't just about finding a puppy.

It's about finding someone you can trust.

Thank you for considering Top Gun Golden Retrievers to be part of your family's story.

I truly don't take that responsibility for granted.

❤️ Samantha
